Hi guys,

I came home today and realised my LPS corals were all shrivelled up... I thought it was something wrong with the water... then I realised that the chiller was showing 27degs... which is fine, but the thing is it stayed there for an hour or so which is not normal...

so I pressed the "set" button and I don't know why but the LCD display showed "CA"... I pressed it again then it displayed 27degs again, pressed again then it displayed 28degs...

Only then did it start to show the true temperature of the tank.. a whopping 33degs!!!!

What happened man?

Erv.

what chiller u using? Sounds like a Resun. Happened to me before when the fan kaputtzzz. Overheating and the chiller simply cut off and the digital display go crazy.

The CA indicator is to calibrate the chiller temperature with actual temperature in case they are different. But in your case I think it is simply going haywire cuz of overheating and the chiller stalled.

try Power off .. let it cool down .. and restart ... set target temperature to say 27 and see if you can hear the sound of the compressor and fan is blowing after 5mins. Somtimes, its just that the fan is stuck (with dust, foreign object or hit the pipes in the case), open the case and see. Good luck!

I am still trying to source for my replacement fan for my CL650.

wah seh so dangerous ah?.. yeah it's a resun and it's working again.. but I don't want to risk it just dying on me for no reason.. shucks...

in terms of the safety feature of the chiller itself .. I think its ok ... cuz the fan will stop even though it touches lightly an object (in one of the case I had, a stray thread got stuck around the spindle of the fan.)

and once fan stop, the chiller when overheated will also stop, so no chance of blowing up or melting anything.

Of cuz , for the guys and gals in your tank .. it can be dangerous if it goes unnoticed as the temperature shart soaring.

"CA" is to calibrate the chiller's temperature to actual temperature of the water in the tank. So if you're using a digital thermometer, you have to make sure the chiller's temp & the digital thermometer's temp are the same.

E.g. If the digital thermometer's temp = 29C & your chiller's temp = 30C. You need to calibrate your chiller's temp to -1.

Another E.g. if the digital thermometer's temp = 29C & your chiller's temp = 27C. You need to calibrate your chiller's temp to +2.

In order to calibrate your chiller, you need to press the 'SET' button on your chiller for about 5-10s and "CA" will appear. Then press "+" or "-" to set. Once setting, the display on the chiller will revert to its original temperature and increase/decrease its temp to match the settings you've just set.

Hope it helps! :)
