Top up Water?

Hi, I'm running a 4 fan to keep my water temperature low but on the other hand the water evaporate quite fast everyday...

Guys so how do you all top up the water everyday? what type of water do all use....?

Always use RO/DI or distilled water for top-ups. Normal top-up water is laden with all sorts of stuff.

what is RO/DI?

there are a few options

water treatment:

1) RO/DI water

2) some use bottled distilled water (not mineral water)

3) tap water << add some additives to remove certain but not all "metals"

best kept over-night to "soften" the water + air-stone

minimun shld go for (3), dun use tap water direct

top-up:

1) manual (use hand)

2) mix with kalk and drip (not require if using CR)

3) auto-mated (use eq like tubby etc) not for kalk dripping

RO/DI water are simply filtered water that removes impurities of sub-micron. Big investment if you care.

Typical RO/DI water are almost free of chlorine, PHO4 etc. Filter elements needs replacement after a certain period of time.

I do my top-up using dechlorinated tap water. Generally tap water adds to algae, but control the filtration will help minimise algae.

Currently I topping up with distilled water off the shelf from NTUC to experiment if algae will be eliminated. Cost at 80cents per 1.5L. Just a experiment, not cost effective on a long run.

ya.. i am using distilled water right now to top up, and it is really not cost effective in a long run... zephyros, what addictive do you add in to the tap water?

u mean air stone is letting the water pump to pump the water the whole night is it?

i use tapwater unfortunately.... I run the tap water thru a DIY kalkreactor.. the topped up water is powered by a DIY auto-top up...

i am using normal tap water + anticlorine....that's all.

So far so good....

Cos i m using fan and the evaporation rate is SCARY....

i use distill water for top up everyday.

top up thru a DIY dripper. cut the base of a 1.5 ltr water bottle & hang it upside down. put a plastic air valve thru the bottle cap. hope u know what i meant.

used to just pour a whole bottle of top up water into the tank or sump. then read somewhere that this may cause "osmosis shock". bad of fish & corals.

if use distilled water quite troblesome leh...must buy everytime.

i think direct from tap is the best , of course with anticlorine or with filter.

is it ok for temperatures to be ard 28C and slightly above daily? these few days weather damn hot.
