SRC Member manta Posted August 29, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted August 29, 2005 without any details of your water parameters/maint/feeding schedule. first thing that comes to mind is to run a FR with phosphate reducing media and reduce the feeding. generally that should help. cheers

SRC Member Kelmen Posted August 30, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted August 30, 2005 If its really algae, there are always have the right pets to take them out, like herbivor fishs and invert. But you must ensure those are algae or bacteria. the later one is more tough to tackle. usually some invert may take them.

SRC Member manta Posted August 30, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted August 30, 2005 personally, i flush the frozen mysis shrimp under a tap first. my intention is firstly to remove unwanted juices from contaminating my water (i just want to feed LS with mysis shrimps) secondly allow the more timid or smaller fish or invertebrates to have a chance of getting some while the whole lot floods the tank. if not the more aggressive fishes will hog the melting pieces. FR with phosphate reducing media, no regrets since i started running it. colours of LS, unwanted algae on sidewalls and general condn of tank improved significantly. finally, it's important to do water changes regularly. nothing will replace this basic reqt. cheers. blur
My fishes ignored the mysis once they are soaked in garlic....did i do anything wrong?
SRC Member AlfaRomeo Posted August 31, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted August 31, 2005 Try to mix some mysis with garlic and some without, then slowly cut over to the garlic soaked ones. Some fishes are blur and dunt recognize the garlic soaked mysis as food as the smell and color has changed.
SRC Member Eric Posted August 31, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted August 31, 2005 Hi anyone can help me? my tank is filled with algae.... how can i mininizm or get rid of it....Help~ any kind soul~ Battling bryopsis algaes has been my greatest challenge in reefing so far........but at last I'm winning the battle.............below are the things i have done for the past 3 months. 1)First manually removed watever algaes you have access to 2)Then make sure u use only DI water for top up or water change (I use NSW) 3)Add in 4kg of phosphate removal like biophos, rowaphos or phosban.........i personally using phosban cos I got it in big quantity at a cheap deal. 4)Reduce lightings period by 1-2hrs 5)Employ 10-20 more snails, a yellow or kole tang or fox face, add in a seahare if u can find one. 6)Reduce feeding to once every 3 days at small quantity each time. 7)Do a 20% water change every week 8)Tune skimmer to wet mode and add in a ozone generator. ..............the whole process will take abt 2 months-4 months before the hair, bryopsis algaes will show signs of dying off.............good luck! Satisfaction guaranteed if you succeed!!!
