was also wondering..

is the Resun MD55 an china-copy of the Iwaki Md55-RLT?

they recomendded the iwaki..but i don have the budget to get the iwaki..

so maybe thought that the resun md55 has the same specs as the iwaki

would it be overrated if i run the resun md55 for my beckett

for a downdraft you will need a powerful pump. ETSS 800 rite?

oh well.., i'll type it out for you.

Downdraft skimmer use a big pump to inject water down a narrow tube at high velocity. This thin tube usually has bioballs or like media in it. These are not intended for biological filtration, although some bacteria will inevitably develop there and participate in biological filtration.

The real purpose of this media is to whisk water through the baffles (bio-balls) at a high speed to create ultra-fine bubbles like whitewater in rapids. The crashing water forced through the bio-balls creates very effective form, which is then channeled into a box below before continuing its way to rise and accumulate skimmate via a larger reaction chamber.

i runned the smaller version of it before......20 inch heigh with a single tube....was working quite well using a Rio HF14.....:P

but yours is a taller version with dual tubes.....so maybe 2xHF20 then got enough.....

just have to becareful....with downdraft, too powerful a pump will create too much turbulance to properly skim out anything....also my experience is that the number of bioball in your tube affects the bubble count so if you are using a pump that is not recommended by the manufactural you might need to play around a bit....
