Hi guys!

Any tips to start coralline growth in a nano tank? My life rock are all brown and lifeless

I read a tip that you can kick start by buying liferock with plenty of coralline.. still it a good way?

Any 'must buy' additives to buy as well?

good trace elements and regular addition of magnesium is essential for coraline algae growth...maintain calcium and dose kalk using kalk dripping with actinics lights on for a longer period of time..

one more thing to add on...do not top up in which the area is near LRs...

the LRs will turn brown in colour also..

just to share with you my experience with regards coralline algae growth ya. first of all, make sure your salinity, ph, calcium, and kh levels are appropriate. ph above 8, ca above 380ppm and kh above 8dkh. if youre maintaining such parameters as it is, and there's still no coralline growth. its time to add some in. borrow or buy a rock with coralline algae on it and just place this beside your existing rock formation. the coralline algae should spread quite quickly. to hasten things, you can also use your fingernails or a hard toothbrush to scrape coralline algae thats on a rock above your other barren rocks. the algae will spread quicker like this.

actinic and higher colour temp lights, like 20000k instead of 6500k also helps, but as long as youre providing adequate lights (i used to run purely 10000k and my coralline growth was good), your rocks ought to be purpley soon.

Definitely water parameters. If your tank is a nano tank like you mentioned regular water changes should keep your Ca, Mg, kH levels in order and you should get coralline algae soon. Light is secondary..don't worry too much about it. I've experienced coralline growing under room light. Then again stronger lights will hasten the process..
