Personally, I think the Canon A95 is a good camera. I paid about $900 for the camera and waterproof casing more than 9 months ago. You can get back the same model or a newer one at less.

The good thing about Canon is that the waterproof casing has only one O-ring. Hence, the chances of leakage is very low. I have used an IXUS before this and there was no leakages too. It also makes changing the battery or CF on the boat easier.

Another feature of A95 that it uses AA batteries. My rechargable 2300 batteries are good for 6 dives. However, the Kiasu me alway change at 4 - 5 dives. There is also a special feature that automatically applies a red filter and this is very important because this is the colour is that lost at about 10m.

You can check out my Sipadan dive photo or tank photo for the quality of the shots.

canon make great compacts. i saw ur pics, the close-ups are beautiful. no strobe right?

AA batteries are more convenient than rechargeable proprietry ones when going on a trip. btw, the part about one O-ring, isn't it the more, the less chance of leakage? :thanks:

the manufacturer says low power consumption.don't know how true is that. :)

Manufacturer words cannot be trusted.

When I bought my Creative Zen, I was told 12 hours continuous play. After buying it my battery cannot last more than 5 hours.

Called the support and was told I cannot use equalizer. huh!!?? Now turn off equalizer, still cannot last more than 5 hours. I dont even bother to call, he may ask me to listen to just one particular type of song.

One advise, always go for camera that uses AA size batteries. The special rechargable batteries are a pain.

Rocky didn't mention budget.....

If budget is not an issue. Sea&Sea makes some nice cam/strobe combos.

If budget is low then make sure u can get one with a manufacturer or aftermarket casing. Dun be like one of my friend buy cam then realise his model no casing. Sounds stupid, but obviously it happens :)
