Hi

Thinking of setting up a CR and FR for my tank.. a few questions that i need to know..

(1) What are the necessary equipment needed for CR? (ie: pump, CR unit, etc?)

(2) What are the necessary equipment needed for FR?

(2) What sort of pump flow rate should i be getting for each?

(3) What media is available (ie calcuim? Rowa? etc)

(4) What are the monthly cost incurred for each in term of media?

Not sure am i asking sensible questions.. as i have not a clue about setting up these.. thought i know what the benefit and results of using them...

Thanks in advance for sharing knowledge.

Hi Rocks,

a CR would basically come with the unit itself and a circulation pump. You will need a feeder pump to deliver raw tank water into your CR. A small pump would do, as the CR effluent (output) is often a trickle. Alternatively, a tee off from a main or return pump is possible- you will need a connector. Paradiz Reef carried some the last time I was there.

The FR often comes by a unit itself - you will need to find a suitable pump for the FR.

As with all reactors, the pump size varies according to your FR.

Media for CR- coral chips, aragonite, ARMS, ROWALITH, etc. As each fillup will last about 6 months and more, it might work about to about less than $10 per month, depending on your consumption rate.

Media for FR- depends greatly on your filtration needs- carbon? rowaphos? I would think apporx $10 too.

Hope this helps

Thanks Riot..

I pretty much clear about the FR ... but for the CR understanding that beside the following:

CR unit, circulation pump, feeder pump, media... i learnt about the CO2 cylinder tank.. that is a must right?

Yup, its a must. You need the co2 to be bubbled into the CR to bring down the ph of the water in the chamber so that the media can dissolve. HTH

thanks AlfaRomeo,

did some reading up myself over the past few days and pick up the knowledge. thank you for sharing...

i guess the cost is one of my concern running a CR ... sigh...

maybe i will start with FR first ...

can check out the threads from sponsors Coral lab and RM...

since I'm only keeping softies and LPS... Kalk reactor should be sufficient... the qn is $$$

Hi

Are you using a Kalk Reactor currently? can show a pic of it and how it work?
