Have a pleasant surprise this morning around 3.30am.

Was browsering through my tank with my touch light when I came across some off spring of shrimps abt 2mm each swimming around. At first I was pretty happy but on 2nd thought, I don't have any paired shrimp in my tank. Whose off spring are these?

I have 1 pistol shrimp, 1 marble shrimp and 1 blood shrimp (haven't been seeing it for awhile) Nope, I haven't add any LRs in these 2 months.

All shrimps have been in my tank for at least 3 months. Non paired.

Hmm...still possible..depending on the moult frequency of the shrimp. Shrimp can only pass eggs to their setae located on their swimmerets after they moult. So if your shrimp moulted less than 3 times within 3 months...they should have been egg bound for less than thrice...meaning they still got enough sperm stores. It is highly likely to be either the pistol shrimp or the marble shrimp that released the larvae. Blood shrimps if fed daily and to satiation will moult and release larvae once every 2 weeks. Get another blood shrimp? You'll get to see larvae every 2 weeks from alternating shrimp.

Always something more important than fish.

Hi there bro,

perhaps theyre mysid shrimps? cause mine look like that pretty much. wait a fortnight or so and observe them with a flashlight at night and see if any of them are carrying eggs beneath? cause if they are, theyd be mysids, seeing as pistol and blood shrimps wont be sexually mature at so small a size.

just my two cents ya.

cheers,

ian
