Should the pump rating be 1000 l/hr or 2000 l/hr?

As I intend to use in as Hang On Back of my 2ft tank, so I cannot go for a big size pump. If I will to use a external pump for the 2011, is it just as effective as an internal pump?

Thanks. ;)
