encounter with ich.

Recommended Posts

during the recent acquisation of flame angel from a ick infected tank , my whole tank kanna ick .

tank mate are blue tang , yellow angel , 2 x false percular and cleaner shrimp.

the flame itself is not infected but the rest of the tank where i bought the flame angel are ick infected . because of my stupidity , i thought maybe this fish is not infected yet, and it will not harm my tank.

mine is a FOWLR, so i perform hyposalinity to around 1.008. and bought cure ick from aquapharm.

today is the forth day and all the fishes are cured . no visible white spots.

from my own experience , hypo does work effectively and my fishes still eat like pigs during curing period with garlicguard mysis and brine.

lost my cleaner because i cannot catch it out and it die due to low salinity.

lesson learned: do not buy fish from a ich infected tank no matter what .

to date , all tank mate are saved .

to all: hypo does work and dont spend unneccesary money on useless medication.

hi there hammy,

nice ot hear youre doing hypo instead of the usual medication or copper route, but pls do keep up the hyposalinity treatment for at least six wks ya. even though there are no longer any tormonts (attached ich parasites) visible, it does not mean that the ich is gone. it could just be in the cyst stage now, with the production of cysts being sparked by the hypo. and even when youre fish get reinfected, ich will attack the gills first and be invisible for a few days, so safest just keep up the hypo.

cheers,

ian

ya nearing a month le. set up another Qt tank . almost just dose copper in then . Haha... looking at cupramine instruction , realise it's not easy as i need a accurate cu test kit , furthermore , if i dose cu , no more coral next time which will be very very sad.
