Foods For Tangs

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

Currently I have a yellow, blue and powder blue tang in my FOWLR tank feeding them with henry's self mix food, Ocean Nutrition Fomula 1 and frozen brime shrimps. Is it good enough for them? Should I buy Seaweed and Algae for them and where can i buy them?

My Livestocks

1 Blue Tang

1 Yellow Tang

1 Powder Blue Tang

1 Flame Angel

4 Ocellaris Clownfish

What kind of food will you all choose for this fishes? Pls Advice :)

suggest you get roasted seaweed for them. can be found in NTUC. make sure you look for the type WITHOUT ANY SEASONING.

tangs need a lot of green fibre in their diet, otherwise they will be prone to disease such as HLLE. :(

Hihi Just to make a suggestion. I oso hv some tangs in my tank (yt, kole, & 3 sml blues) . Besides mysis, brine shrimps & ocean nutrition formaula 1 & 2, I keep the red bamboo type of algae that u find selling at lfs for 5 bucks or so. My tangs esp love it. At their own leisure, they'll just pick n eat the plant. A typical piece on a rock last abt 3 mths for me.

Main Tank : 48 inch by 36 inch by 28 inch (2 sides starphire glass)
Sump Tank :
Return Pump :
Chiller : Starmax Compressor 1 HP Drop coil
Chiller Return Pump
Protein Skimmer :
Wave Maker :
Fluidised Reactor :

Actually, I think that if your five tangs love it, the algae on that one rock ($5) wouldn't last 3 months. Sounds more like they don't really like it but also don't have much other choice if they want to get more vegetation in their diet.

Suggest you try using dried/roasted nori. You'll be surprised just how much tangs will eat.

Just a suggestion ... My tangs hv plenty of greens from algae on teh liverocks. They get most of the daily requirement from mysis n ocean nutrition formulas. The suggestion is just so u get teh attractive red algae and minimal work. And if juding from how fast they eat = what they like, then mysis wud be their fav food cos they whacked frozen as well as live mysis faster than my other fishes .
