Cleaner shrimp fights

Recommended Posts

Still a newbie and just an experience to share.

Bought 3 small cleaner shrimps back 2 weeks ago. Put the 3 of them in a small separate container around 20cm length in the main tank together with a few small pieces of coral chips to form caves.

On 4th day morning, realised that 2 died leaving only 1 surviving and it molted the following night. Thought it could be my aclimitisation though i spent 3 hours to drip water into the plastic bag.

Last week, bought another 3 small cleaners. Put 2 in one container and the other in another container. Both in same tank.

On 3rd day morning, one of the 2 in the first container died. The other container's cleaner still surving. And the "winner" in the first container molted over night.

Initially thought that cleaners are frenly, now come to think of it, maybe it is because it needs "privacy" to molt.

Don't know if my conclusion is right. Any comments?

I bought 3 and release them into the tank after accumatization. One molted (at least I only saw one empty shell) in the next couple of days. All three are doing fine and competing with the fishes for the pallets I feed them!

Perhaps, you place them in too small an environment. Their survival instinct took over and the strongest one dominated.

Waste no more time arguing what a good man should be, be one.

Out of topic but... i guess everyone got their 3 shrimps from the Aquamarin '3 for $10' sale.. :D

I've kept my 3 cleaner shrimps for some time now, and they coexist peacefully, each of them having molted at least once in my humble 2 feet tank.. I've personally never seen them fight before. :)
