Hi guys,

Well.. for those of you who have read my UPS & DC airpump thread would know that today the singapore power guys were supposed to cut the power to my house for 5 hrs.

Because stupid me didn't bother to upgrade the sump when I upgraded the tank... so when the power cuts, too much water flows into the sump and as a result a flood will occur... So i wanted to find a way to solve this w/o having to lug home a new sump...

Last week I bought a UPS to run a few smaller pumps just to keep the tank going... I figured not only would the sump not flood, i could keep circulation and aeration going... but as it turns out the UPS cannot run the pumps because of some non-pure sine wave crap... now the UPS is basically useless coz it's circuitry got blown or something...

Sooooo... i went out to get DC airpumps to keep the tank going and the water that gushes down I decided to siphon it out into a pail instead....

THEN... as Murphy's Law would have it... I fell asleep minutes before the power went out...

Luckily I have a flood detecting alarm (bought from DIY shop) and it woke me up but too late already.. mini flood in my room...

Sigh... that's just the tip of the iceberg.. then for some reason I got a nasty shock from my sump light... it was leaking electricity for some reason... but turns out it there was some problem with the plug or something like that...

Think there were a few other minor fires to fight along the way too... grumble

All this trouble just because of poor planning on my part...

SIGH...

i was thinking...

instead of buying a UPS which is 1. costly 2. need to buy airpumps 3. cannot last long. can we?

get an O2 tank with fail-open solenoid. in then event when power supply cuts or MCB/ELCB trips , solenoid valve opens and O2 is released into the tank. a few airstones will give good spread of fine bubbles to better oxygenate the water. i estimate this could run for days. just a suggestion.

i didn't bother to try out cos there's always somebody at home. :)

take it easy there, we all have our equal share of mishap. did it affect any of the LS/coral in the tank?

nah.. only living thing hurt was me.. 2 cuts & multiple minor electric shocks from the sump light...
