NKF's administration brought to public scrutiny

Let me share this story with you guys... originally I didn't want to reveal this as its a private family matter, but after reading the reports in the papers today, I REALLY HATE NKF!!!!!

3 years ago, my sister suffered kidney failure. She is now on Dialysis 3 times a week. When she approached NKF, she was rejected, meaning she would not get ANY subsidy from NKF. Now the juicy part is, my sister is a bankrupt, she was declared bankrupt a few years back after hr business failed...

My question is, if a bankrupt cant get subsidy, who would?!

The reason NKF gave is : Although she is bankrupt, she is currently working as a taxi-driver, which means that her income ( irregardless if she works or not ) would be $2000. Dat's becoz she has a license to drive taxi....

It makes me wonder, if my sis as a bankrupt decide to make good of her life, by driving taxis to make a living ( she has 2 daughters btw ), it is already difficult to make ends meet, and due to the dialysis every week, she doesn't drive for at least half a day 3 days a week, not to mention the dialysis makes her tired and all dat, cant NKF give some form of subsidy? If I'm a kidney patient, maybe I should just sit at home and do nothing about my life den get subsidies???

Next, even if she has a much lower income, say $800 per month from another job, they also look into the income of the ENTIRE family, meaning, not only her husband's income, it includes also her parents, her siblings ( me included ) and her children ( supposing her children are old enough to work )... With EVERYONE's income in, we might exceed the ceiling by 3 times over! But we all got our own life and expenses to pay for, but NKF doesn't care, as long as the ENTIRE FAMILY got income, they dun help...

Another incident is my very good friend's mum, she has a small subsidy from NKF, but the problem is that the cost of dialysis from NKF goes up every now and den... but the subsidy maintains the same amount, to a point of time whereby, by having dialysis in a private centre is the same price as NKF dialysis centres after the subsidy, or maybe just slightly more expensive...

It really sickens me to know now that the CEO travels 1st class and wants gold taps, I swear I'll never give another cent to NKF again!! To tink that few years back, I actually volunteered to get one of the donation cards and seek for donations on their behalf..... Now, with all these truths surfacing, I'm really sicken to the core....

Aren't there audits? I thought all these things should have gone through proper audit and the findings release. To think i am working our asses out trying to justify the purchase of a stapler in my corporate audit ...

the public had been demanding for transparency in their audits but they never show... if i recall correctly, there was a debate on this by the govt... but apparently, no actions was taken..

There are guidelines, but I suspect they are so stringent that very few people qualify, definitely IMO, they dun need that much donations for helping that small group of people!

Because effectively, they are not a govt institution so not subjected to public audit. Like a private company, it is up to the board to decide.

I truly agree. There's this distant relative of mine whom mum is a kidney patient also tried applying subsidy from NKF. Her son (who is the husband of my distant relative) is supporting his own family of a housewife and 3 kids. his sister wasn't working and her husband is doing a kinda freelance thingy ... wasn't able to receive subsidy.

This shows that even those sitting at home doesn't necessary be able to be granted with subsidies.

Anyway, I saw this story from NKF fund raising exercise boardcasted by TCS quite sometime ago on this rich businessman who got into the fate of having to visit dialysis centres till he paid his entire family forture for this illness. From here, I derive to this understanding that NKF will wait till you are totally broke before they the offer any help to you.

Just imagine ... if you are a kidney patient and needs dialysis. Even you are rich, you are not supposed to save any money for your children's future education. You have to spend every single cents for you medications and stuffs like these. You will come to a stage when you will become broke and evenually (or fortunately???) there is this NKF thingy able to "help" you (which you suppose to receive help in the beginning) ... by then, your child/children needs higher eductaion (I mean those sub-standard students who can't persue their studies in local University - Even if they could, that would be pretty expensive too). Who can they approach? NKF? ha! Wait for another rejection letter than.

I've not been donating for quite sometime. I would rather use the same amount meant for donation to them to buy my corals!

Probably CEO can have benefits and entitlement but patients NO BENEFITS and ENTITLEMENT and cannot have saving too!

both sides do. it's openly stated by LKY in his memoirs that charitable organisations like NKF are strongly supported by the Govt to make people more compassionate and caring for others in society and to help bear the burden of taking care of the less fortunate.

A noble ideal, but it clearly has gone wrong at NKF after all these years. Time for the Govt to look at whether some charities have begun to misuse public funds and to clamp down on them. Ministry of Finance recently announced upcoming new guidelines for charities to have more transparency, and of course, NKF promptly said it will not follow these as it has its own "rules and audits". And other assorted bullsh*t.

If got internet banking just cancel it from there
