Sorry for posting such a boh liao thread but this thing had been literally bugging me for weeks, hope some biologist or ecologist can come out with some answers.

Anyone notice that there are many those big size moths appearing frequently now? It's those 4-6" kind of black/brown/white moths. Everywhere and everyday I see a few of these moths dying or flying aimlessly. I only used to see this kind of moths rarely last time... P. tekong or more forested areas...but its starting to be spooky liao. Watch out .... there is a Mothman lurking around... :P

But seriously, do you think it's the weather? But last year heatwave also no see this phenomena.....

i too saw lots of these giant beautiful moths clinging on to walls at void decks and other places.

centipedes have not seen any tho'.

i've also seen earthworm-like worms crawl and fast speed, folding their middle bodies up and pushing themselves forward. and they sure are fast.

It's all because of the Avian flu. Many migratory birds died and the number of such birds reaching sg went down. With fewer birds, they consume fewer caterpillars, thus more caterpillars reach adulthood and turn into moths....thus more moths flying around. More moths, less food...thus more flying and more dying. Sound logical or not?

I think (marine) therefore I am

well... it make sense but the local bird population sure had not been dwindling... perhaps the local birds got too used to hainanese chicken rice than the catepillars... lol

I had to fish out many moths from my tank every day... at least 2 per day... the biggest one was the size of my open palm!!!

I was wondering what was causing a big piece of moving shadow over my corals and yikes!Really freaked out fishing that one out!

I wonder if they release toxins into the water?

There's a logical explanation to this "phenomenon". hv heard it b4, but juz can't seem to recall. where's FuEl when we need him?:P

Wah...kenna arrow... Anyway I don't study insects so I can't really comment. Anyway, most stuff won't eat millipedes. They are real foul tasting critters. As for the moths..maybe something is intefering with their navigation causing them to "beach" themselves like whales?

Hmm..don't think you need to worry AT...I doubt moths are toxic. My lizards loved them..

Always something more important than fish.

This, i can concur... ate one of them during my Jungle Survival course in brunei...and those are huge buggers, easily 10mm in thickness... very juicy.. but foul taste... yucks...
