vincegoh
There are a number of beckett skimmers around and I am confused which skimmer is better. From what I understand, there are RM, bullet and I*** beckett skimmers. Any experienced bro out there can share their views on this? Thank you. SRC Member hotlemond Posted July 11, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted July 11, 2005 performance wise they are almost the same cos they use the same Beckett nozzel. Its the pump driving it that it's important. design wise, you can look out for one that incorporate an air intake silencer.
weileong
Choose one that gives the following: 1. Ease of maintenance, removal of collection cup, injector etc etc 2. Less turbulence 3. Give less micro bubbles at outlet. And most important of all, one that does leak! I understand that the bullet beckett will require a less powerful pump to drive as it go directly into the reaction chamber of the skimmer. A 50W pump is sufficient. How about for the other beckett skimmers? I suppose a bigger capacity pump is required since there should be significant losses through the length of the inlet pipe. The longer downtube actually reduces the head lost hence you get better skimmer performance. I don't understand how a longer downpipe will have less head losses. Anyway, I am not sure of the working of a beckett skimmer in the 1st place. From what I know it is a extension of venturi skimmer. Any experts care to explain.

Thanks. That is also why it is getting more confusing of the pros and cons for the individual beckett skimmer. Can anyone tell me on their personal experiences on the different beckett skimmers? Or can also PM me if it is sensitive.
SRC Member dt8666 Posted July 12, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted July 12, 2005 Really good if all user can start to advise the issue they face with the beckett so we all can share and learn will be great. that way, the vendor also can take this back to perfect the next version. that will be very helpful for all the potential beckett user. Me will be one of them. Cheers!

SRC Member ozy Posted July 12, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted July 12, 2005 I am using the Skimz Beckett with extension. I really like it because I used to hear about micro bubble problem with most beckett design. However, the Skimz beckett really has no such problem. I am kind of surprise myself, since I have read a lot about the skimmer from this forum.
SRC Member ozy Posted July 12, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted July 12, 2005 For my other FOWLR tank, I am using a similar beckett from Reef Manics. It was custom made by Joe for me. It is even higher than the Skimz skimmer because I tend to feed my fishes a lot. Pretty good piece of equipment too. As for the micro bubbles, I did a little modification myself. by just turning the outlet elbow in the skimmer higher up, and it has almost elimate the microbubble as well. But one thing you have to hand it to Joe, his service is really good and it does not stop once you have paid for the product.
