cowfish

Recommended Posts

hi everyone,

juz bought a longhorn cowfish. Read about it from liveaquaria that they eat meaty and vegetable food. Crustaceans too.

I was wondering whether they will take in BBS, mysis, frozen brine or cyclopeeze??

can everyone advice me a wee bit? :thanks:

BBS will certainly not be enough for them. Depending on size of your cow, give it either mysis or even small cut pieces of market prawn. Given time, they will also take pellets.

I think (marine) therefore I am

Yup, they love frozen bloodworms... :P

But do be very careful when selecting them, do make sure none of the fishes in the shop's tank has any sign of white spots before buying any cowfish from that tank.. otherwise your cowfish is almost guaranteed to come down with ich and nuke your whole tank within a week or two. I had a very bad experience with them before.. the importance of proper selection cannot be overemphasized.

Bro paiseh.. hijack abit. :P

Since we are on cowfishes...

Anyone can advise if they are safe with LPS and Larger shrimps (Eg, Cleaners and boxers)?

Saw some very small ones at pasir ris last time. Less then an inch! :D CUTE!

Thinkin of adding one (Maybe not the small one la, maybe the long horns) but hav to clear some stuff up.

-Are they sensitive to water conditions?

-Compatible with other boxfishes/cowfishes?

-Do they readily adapt to aquarium life?

Just wanna know from other reefers' real life experiences. :thanks::thanks::D

1) Yes, they are rather sensitive to water changes/parameters.

2) Not sure, only kept 1 cowfush before, i got it at abt 2"(incl. tail) and it grew to abt 6" in less a year.

3) They are one of the most responsive marine animals i've ever kept! it's like keeping a dog!
