Electricity tariff revision for the period 1 July to 30 September 2005

1 Electricity tariff will be increased by an average of 2.2 cents per kWh for the quarter, 1 Jul to 30 Sep 05. The revised tariffs are shown in the table attached (Appendix 1)

Electricity tariff revision for the period 1 July to 30 September 2005

1 Electricity tariff will be increased by an average of 2.2 cents per kWh for the quarter, 1 Jul to 30 Sep 05. The revised tariffs are shown in the table attached (Appendix 1)

2 The increase is due to the higher cost of electricity arising from higher fuel oil prices. For the period 1 Jul to 30 Sep 05, tariffs are pegged to a higher fuel oil price of US$39.32 per barrel as compared to US$30.09 per barrel for the previous quarter.

3 Fuel cost makes up about 50% of the cost of electricity. The fuel sources for power generation are oil and gas, and gas prices in Singapore are indexed to oil prices. An increase in oil prices will thus lead to higher electricity costs. The electricity tariff is reviewed quarterly and reset if necessary. The tariff will next be reviewed in Sep 05 and will be adjusted accordingly in line with the fluctuation in oil price.

4 The tariff adjustments have been approved by the industry regulator, the Energy Market Authority.

5 To mitigate the increase in electricity bills, consumers are encouraged to adopt good energy conservation practices, such as using energy-efficient electrical appliances like fluorescent tubes and cutting down on the use of air-conditioning. 6 SP Services has also introduced the Pay-As-You-Use (PAYU) Metering Scheme on 16 May 2005. Pre-paid electricity meters will be installed for HDB households that opt for the scheme. This scheme enables HDB households whose electricity supply has been disconnected to be reconnected and have their arrears paid over time. It also helps households to better manage their consumption. Customers on this scheme need not pay ­­­for the meter nor furnish a deposit. There is also no charge on the installation and the smart key for topping up of credits. Participation is voluntary. More than 350 households have signed up for the scheme within the first month of its launch.

I have no idea why gov approve this idea. Electronic is not a mobile phone. U can live without mobile phone but without electronic. Remember power black out..... think about it.

I would said it's a SACK IDEA...........

and don't forget if you can't pay power bills, your electronic would be cut off.
