Star Fish broken leg

Hi, I have had a Star fish whom have all the five legs all broken.

4 days back, after knowing that the 4 legs was broken, decided to put it in a betta container, but yesterday, saw that the last leg also break off in small pieces.

I don't things it is due to the snail, hermit crab or ghost crab, as even after putting it in a betta box, it still break.

Anyone has such experience? please kindly advice as I do not want to see it dying. :(

:thanks:

hi all. ive experienced this with the starfish that ive tried to keep in the past too. fromias and linkias and even the double icon star. they all seem to waste away within a month. think its because of inadequate nutrition. i mean, for those species that are detrivores, like the linkias and fromias, think theres hardly enough detritus and bacteria to meet their nutritional needs.

usually, the carnivorous starfish do better in captivity but theyre usually not reef safe.

any other ideas anyone? cause id really like to keep a fromia, but even though everything else is thriving in my tanks, starfish always waste away.

cheers,

ian

i had a blue linkia with me for almost a year, and it has grown.

As they are detritus eaters, and a very slow one, i figure out having some extra serving of food thrown once in a while will supplement thier diet. I also have a few brittle/serpent stars that has grown in size.

but funny thing is i never see the linkia comb the wall or sand bed, it's forever on the rocks. Are they like that?

I feed cyclopeeze, formulae 1,nori and henry's food
