Hi Folks,

This is an article I read about Calcium reactor.

A calcium reactor offers a simple and convenient solution for maintaining calcium and alkalinity in your reef tank. After the initial setup, the calcium reactor requires minimal maintenance. A calcium reactor is almost a necessity for tanks heavily stocked with stony coral where calcium and alkalinity demands are high.

It is also a great addition for those looking to boost the growth of coralline algae on their live rock. Calcium reactors provide a steady supply of calcium by using CO2 to dissolve media in the reactor and, thus, releasing calcium into your water. The effluent released also acts as a buffer to stabilize pH.

Just want to know if there is any calcium reactors in the market that doesn't require the use of CO2.

Also, as far as I understand (as I'm also a planted tank keeper) CO2 will bring the water to more acidicity state. I don't quite understand how the calcium reactor can diffuse Calcium into a reef tank?

Apologise for my ignorance as I need some info before deciding to get one. :bow:

The CO2 is used to purposely acidify the water in your Calcium reactor chamber so as to melt your calcium media (ARM). You will be doing slow drip from your Ca Reactor, so if you keep your carbonate hardness high, you will not have much ph fluatuation.

Or you can dose kalk solution to neutralise the ph drop effect.

Or off your CR during the lights off period whereby ur ph will drop the most.

Or use a ph controller and solenoid valve to control your CO2 injection.

Doesn't it supposed to stabilise PH?

By the way, is carbonate hardness refers to KH? :blink::blink:

Ya, carbonate hardness is your KH. The CR will help stablise the tank but will also drop your ph if CO2 not controlled properly.
