Tilted your tunze stream slightly upwards and filled up your bottom with corals. This will help in eliminating the sand storms.

Unless you are talking about DSB, a bare bottom lets you Tunze all the way without worries of sand storm. Its good too cause it keeps debris suspended and out of the tank thru overflow.

Of course it wont look so natural without the sand. If you are going full sps, then bare bottom is a better choice.

Nothings beats the real mccoy for me, prefers sands unless going zeovit. ;)

to me BB is the way to go. I used to go for sand bottom but realised that after running a year or 2 later, maintaining it is a problem, esp when you overstock. which most of us do.And not to mentioned dead fished along the way. Now my routine is just 5% water change weekly and siphoning debris from the sandbed with eheim gravel cleaner

check out how white the glass beads are, no clouding and best part is they are so easy to spread and they dont stick onto corals.

i have always hated it when my corals drop onto the sand bed and u see all the sand stuck all over the corals , i literaly buried alot of my corals when i was pouring 25kg of glass beads into the tank so all those corals on the bottom are covered , and i just took them out 1 by 1 , shake it a little and no bead stays on the coral rocks

i found out the disadvantage already , i have now develope a fetish for ultra white sandbed, saw a patch of detritus (fish poo) just now then immediately use my feeder syringe to suck and suck and clear it away haha

I like the cleanliness of bare bottom tank but don't like the unnatural looks. So I use a thin layer of coral chips which looks natural yet my tunze stream are able to circulate water all around it thus keeping detritus suspend until it goes into the overflow.
