SRC Member 35Cents Posted June 17, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted June 17, 2005 The kind that its red stripes fades off in the dark are so called the fake ones. But apparently I got that sometime ago and it does feeds on apitasia. Of course I cannot confirm if this rumour is true or not... urban reefing legend? Quote "Ah, Blackadder. FuEl
Lysmata wurdemanni is the true peppermint shrimp. The one that resembles it might be Lysmata kuekenthali? SRC Member Kelmen Posted June 20, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted June 20, 2005 maybe this some kind of confusion from the "hit and miss" of these pets? Known many stated some do eat aiptasia, some do not. My guess is they are same, somehow those "fake" one probably been petting in past, and developed taste over our feeding over the aiptasia, then sell back through the LFS? SRC Member diabolus Posted July 2, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted July 2, 2005 Apparently, the one that stays red thru out the nite is the real peppermint shrimp - lysmata wurdemanni. The "fake" peppermint have very similar strips as the real McCoy but fades or loses its colouring in the nite time. as for whether they feed on aiptasia....its like playing the roulette.
