Okie folks, I understand that Tanganyikan Cichlid setup requires caves and substrate...

Now the question is what sort of exact stones and substrate to use.... limestone? Granite? I can't seem to find the right info on the web...

I saw a documentary (Given by a very nice LFS) to view on tanganyikan lake...

The rock's appear large and like round boulders... substrate looks like normal fine sand...

this one (third pic) is nice. looks like shiny coraline algae. Seen some ppl use lava rocks

I am using grade 0 coral sand for my set up. This is to help with high PH / Buffer these fishes needed and also this grade was chosen for the shell dwellers I have.

It would really depend on which particular species you intend to keep. For example if you are thinking of Calvus, you may want to consider option 2 in your pics because those guys love to go in and out of those small crevices.

I thought of that too... but coral chip a bit too "white" for tanganyikan setup... though it has pH buffer properties...

Will use lots of coral chip (size 3 and above) in sump as pH buffer and biofilter instead...

Besides Cichlid Forever at Upper Serangoon Road, where else can I get good Tanganyikan stuff? Any farms or wholesaler around?

I am also askin the same question at some cichlid forum, but thought I try my luck here too...

Try H20 Aquarium near kembagan mrt. Cheap rocks. Bring in tanganyika cichlids too. Used to work there..

3rd pic looks like slate... but not sure where u can get it though...
