Snail Dislodging Occurance

Hi guys, I want to share this strange occurance that I had seen from my snails

Was trying to pick out some snails that had been grazing on my chaeto when under my constant agitation, it dislodged its lower half and fell off. The part that was dislodged still wriggled for some time before it finally stopped moving.

Never had I seen such an occurance before and its not an isolated incident because the next snail I picked did the exact same thing!!!

These are moon snail and they dislodged their rear part as decoy..sort of like lizards dislodging their tails. Nothing new

I find it so cool man. Now I got about 3 flesh in my preservation bottle

I seem to have a lot of those moon snails in my tank. Think they hitchhike and then overpopulate in my tank

Are these useful or harmful snails??

They are very good snails as they move very fast and its good to keep algae under control.

But if I were to keep any macroalgae in my refugium, I have to move them to my main tank first

will this "decoy" dislodging trick foul up the ammonia spike?

or maybe some additional snack for others?

Yah I am afraid of the decomposition so I took out all the decoys

Now probably have a collection of them

Why waste it?

I believe the hermit (non-vegetarian one ) would like to munch on it.
