Hi Reefers,

Just wanna find out whether anyone out there using the above? Is effective? I was quite suprised that the price is quite low compared to other brands.

Any feedback are welcomed. I am on a budget and thought of getting one.

Thanks!

For me.. i think my bio load considered low.. so the skimmer performance between weipro 2014 and my macro needlewheel (forgot what size.. 2nd largest or 3rd largest) is very slight... macro only like 10-20% better...

I still don't get kopi-O... teh at most if I tune for wetter skimmate

I luv the Weipro... for what its worth and value. I'm using the mini 2011, and I can't fault it for the price one gets.

I remember reading a post by FuEL, noting that he's gotten kopi-o skimmate from it... the darkest I've had before was dark green, after like 2-3 days, 2 to 3 cm only.... its alot easlier to skim wet than dark/dryier skimmate.

They are built with everything a good skimmer has... gate valve, removable collection cup, most of the tubes can be disconnected and cleaned, even the inner cylindrical tube within the main body can be removed for cleaning and placed back. They can be hanged o/s the main tank or used in sump.

The cons are:

My mini's neck has fine hairline cracks after prolong removal/replacemnet, which allow water to leak, I had to glue the cup to the neck to prevent further leakage(I'm in to buy a replacement skimmer now, thx marchie)... this was after > 1 yrs of usage. Generally speaking, the acrylic is very brittle, drop the cup or lid and it cracks. When removing the cup, is good to moisten the neck and gently twist it out... yanking it out will cause cracks in the inner.

The tubes connecting to the body, needs to be glued, to prevent leaks.

The actual venturi is quite hopeless,(I've removed it). I'm using an external pump that has a venturi on the o/p.

The sponge will wear out after some time. It needs to be cleaned occasionally and it does a surprisingly good job at preventing micro-bubbles from appearing. When it wears out, replace the sponge with some filter wool and contain them in small filter media bag(like those you use to put GAC in)... I'll see if I can post a pic showing how this is done, ... or jus imagine.

Tuning:

1. For the mini, use a external pump which allows you to control the o/p flow conveniently, something that gives max 1000 l/h shd be enough. This aspect is quite important.

2. You need something to control the air entering the venturi, some air-valve tap is good, as this will allow you to control the bubble size or complete shut off the air intake if you want to.

3. The gate-valve provided is also crucial as it allows you to control the height of the bubbles bubbling out ==> to tune for wet or dark skimmate

I don't think it can be done efficiently without these 3 points above.

Wow...my post using the weipro? That must have been some time ago even before I got my I-box or sump..

Anyway, I think most people who can't get the best effect are either using too weak or strong pumps. I remembered my weipro was the 2012 model. I only used a 1200 l/hr powerhead on it..which was the recommended pump flowrate on the box I think. Don't remember controlling the air or doing anything fancy. It does make sense that larger weipro models will produce darker skimmate, as the larger models have a taller reaction chamber. :)

Anyway, I'm back to weipro once again...maybe I post a pic of weipro 2012 skimmate when I'm back sometime in July..

Always something more important than fish.
