Recommended Posts

Hi,

Attached is my 3 week old 1.5 ft tank. Cycled for 1.5 weeks and tested ok for ammonia and nitrite. Till now, i ve added quite a number of fishes.

1 common clown

1 dottyback

1 yellow tail damsel

1 butterfly (dunno the breed)

1 slug

1 sponge coral (dunno the name)

2 kg of live rock

What do u think of the set-up? Wat else should i add or do to make it look better?

Thanks....

hmm...cycled for 1 1/2 week n got a ok for both ammonia n nitrite......i tot it shd take much longer. i suggest u buy a bigger tank if u can cos ur tank is too small n i reckon u will 1 to upgrade when it get a little crowded.( which is easily done due to ur tank size). go to the library n borrow some marine aquarines books or visit good bookstore that allow browsing..bor*ers to get some knowledge on at least the chapter ' starting a marinefish tank'. u will learn faster n more then waiting for ans here. A overhead filter is not suitable for marine tanks.

ur lights look like a study desk clip on lamp haha ^^

n try to resize ur pics to smaller res

good luck

believe less then 50% of wat ppl tell u n bring it up tp 99% by confirming it urself

Definitely too crowded for a 1.5 ft tank... brudder, u need to get a bigger tank if u wanna keep marine. Ur butterfly will get big...

Also, if u are unaware, butterflies are known to peck on corals (esp polyps)... should u be tempted to add corals in the future.. If u are getting corals, u have to upgrade ur lights... (Starting to see the cost? :eyeblur: )

Overhead filters are not recommended... minimum a canister, otherwise preferably a sump tank.

Lastly, if u are a beginner, stay away from slugs (nudibranchs)...

For the cycling, I added in half a prawn for 5 days to kick start the ammonia. I seed with bacteria every 2-3 days. Then i replace the rotten prawn with one new one. Ammonia and nitrite was very high.

On the 8th day, i remove the prawn and added 1 kg of live rock. Ammonia was slightly high and nitrite very high. On the 10th day, ammonia and nitrite was ok.

Think it is due to the live rock and the seeding of bacteria tha i can achieve cycling in 1.5 week.

If the slug will cause me alot of prob, shall i return it to the shop then? it sh\ounds so scary that it will wipe out my tank.
