ich outbreak...

Recommended Posts

If kana ich outbreak.... is it a must to take out all fishes for treatment... i plan to take out my tangs.... but if my nemo and fire goby looks ok can i leave them in the main tank and feed with garlic guard to enhance their immune system since i have always feed them with that and they are not having the disease...

Problem is will the ich live on them without affecting them.. if the tangs recover and the ich still exist in my tank??

And also is it necessary to take out algae blenny??? consider fish??

Hihi Reds

Frm personal experience, ich can break out anytime there is stress in the fishes. This is especially true when there are new fishes & temperature fluctuations. As my tank is filled with liverocks, I usually jus try n improve the conditions, wh usually means >=30% water chg.

I know a lot of bros & sis here dont agree with me but hv been doing this since I was in school back in the '70s before all the new medication & equipment came along. Hope this helps.

Main Tank : 48 inch by 36 inch by 28 inch (2 sides starphire glass)
Sump Tank :
Return Pump :
Chiller : Starmax Compressor 1 HP Drop coil
Chiller Return Pump
Protein Skimmer :
Wave Maker :
Fluidised Reactor :

Ich can't survive without a host as it's a parasitic protozoa. There's a dormant stage but it's does'nt last very long. So in theory, you can have an ich free aquarium. This is possible if you practise proper quarantine procedures and avoid introduction of alien seawater into your aquarium (yes this even applies to water from retail shops, no matter how little it is or how clean it looks).

What you can do now is to isolate all your fish from the main tank. Leave your main tank fishless for 2 weeks just to be sure while treating your fish. Raise your main tank water temperature to 28-30 degrees celcius. 28 the maximum limit if you have sensitive corals. This serves to speed up the life cycle of ich and eliminate them faster by starvation.

Always something more important than fish.

Hi Reds,

Any fish can be a host....so if you want to get rid of it, scoop out all the fish.

Good luck, I am in Hyposalnity and will be doing it for 2 months. I hope I can endure it.

any other mthds? does medication helps??? Dun know whether i shld invest in a refractormeter.....

I am using activated carbon and ceramic rings to do a QT tank... use the tank water in QT tank now.... Stress the hell out of them just now...

Just hope the AC can rid any ammonia spike and let the fish settle down b4 i decide on medication or hyposalinty...

i just read that if the immune system of the fish is good they wont be attacked by ich....

So can i just keep my fire goby and algae blenny in fry net in main tank to monitor? if they are ich free for more than 2 weeks dats mean then ich cant find any more host to reproduce....

While i QT the tangs and nemo in another tank.....

Feasible???

please remove the carbon if you are doing treatment, as the med will be absorb away.

k... then which mthd shld i use??? MEdication or hyposalinty?

both methods have been reported to be effective, though the choice of med does play a part. Suggest you gather feedback on the med to use before buying and using them.

There are more than a way to skin a cat.
