Hello guys, esp those keeping ric florida

I'm doing alittle research on how to best care for my rics floridas.

I just wanan know what are the most important perimeter and all.

Best still, what equipment that best cater for it..

I plan to have a... 2feet tank + 2feet sump / Skimmer / DSB / T5 HO / Marco algae in the sump.. / Tropic marin

Cheers!

Think u should remove the DSB,it has adverse effects on the PO4 levels in ur tank...

Anyway, all the other stuffs are alright...

I do agree that the DSB can leach a little po4 back into the system over time, but it's efficient in removing no3... and the po4 can easily be absorbed by a little rowaphos... :P

actually...PO4 can also be reduce by using Tropic Marin pro coral organic..

that is a gd product which helps stimulates coral growth as well as removing the PO4...my 2 cents...

I'm having a small frag in my tank now too.

My water generally are in good range, except the pH, which is quite high 8.8+

Its been in there about 2 weeks, grown about double size liao, from 5 cent to 20 cents size now.

Feed it cyclopeeze/phytoplankton once a week.

WWM stated its prefer more light and low feeding compare with other mushroom. Generally, its hardy.

I dont think they even take in phyto

You can try Golden Pearls, it works for me

But if you tame me, we shall need each other.

Just feed it with market prawn.. then will explode in size.

Anyway i think you should set up the tank first.

Kelmen your pH is too high? What happen? You should stop dosing calcium if you are dosing it.

have to "soften" up the prawn meat, I guess.

Well, if phytoplankton too fine for them, I believe cyclopeeze should be good for them.

Golden Pearls kind of too expensive :|

Eh, my tackling my pH, been stop kalk dripping already (out topic) :D

Make sure your pH test kit is reliable. To bring down your pH you should aerate your water vigorously and improve water surface exchange of gases by removing any oil films, etc. If the pH is still high you can dose vinegar to bring it down. You will experience an intial drop in carbonate hardness but once the acetate from vinegar is metabolised your carbonate hardness will return to normal.

Corallimorphs don't take up phytoplankton. They feed more on zooplankton and other meaty foodstuffs and probably also take up dissolved organic matter.

As for iodide dosage it really depends on the amount of soft corals you have in your tank as these require more iodine than other organisms. Weekly water changes should keep your iodine levels sufficient. If you intend to dose it's best you get a test kit to avoid overdosing as I know most people who dose iodine dose it on a trial and error basis. If I did'nt remember wrongly NSW values of iodide are around 0.01-0.03 ppm which is really very very low.

Always something more important than fish.

so "risky" with the iodine additive, may as well go for trace element supplement. Simple and many-in-one feature :D

yea...trace elements is also impt to dose for a reef tank.. :D
