Never ever put chiller outdoor cos' the rain, the sun, the dust & not forgettin critters of all sorts will do serious damage to the equipment.

Waterproof ? I surely give it the benefit of the doubt ! ;)

If u wanna put it outdoors, just make sure it wun catch any rain or water. Definately under a shelter area and not under the hot sun.

Definitely not the normal chillers unless you're getting the commercial chillers like arctica. Never expose chillers to the environment such as rain and water. If under shelter, still have to clean the heat exchanger fins/foils more often from debris and dust.

Cheers! :)

i placed my domestic Pac Coo chiller in my balcony ever since i re-setted up my tank. no problem so far. Juz make sure that rain does not get into the electronic thermostat controller. the circuitry within the Pac Coo chiller is also placed in such a way that it is high within the chiller casing itself. it is unlikely that the main circuitry will come into contact with rain or condensate.

As for dust and dirt, whether u place ur chiller indoor or outdoors; dust and dirt will still be accumulated at the cooling fins of the condenser in due time. when this happens, air passage thru the condenser (driven by ur condenser fan) is blocked and significantly reduced.

Wat i meant was the chiller will be sheltered at the porch area... not in the open...

My setup is a 2ft marine tank with 2 ft sump.... Fish, clams and yumas are doing fine even though lately the temp went up quite abit... But brain and 2 mushie start to loss color lately...

Intially i only use 3 DC fans to lower the temp... lately i use bottled ice partially submerged in water to slowly lower the temp... and so bros say the fluctuation will be too great so i add in a heater and set at 27degress :P hoping that the temp wont swing so much....

So now is either i buy a chiller.. continue this way or sell my brain corals.....

Any better suggestions? Or bring in my tank indoor... which will be damm siong to transfer.. :cry2:

damm right, the weather is terrible.

a chiller helps to keep the temp at ideal condition that is good for them. So, try to get one eventually.

If you cont to use fan, best to get the tank indoor.

but look out for salinity issue. Also, invest in a AC fan instead.
