Whenever I browse through the ReefCentral site, reading those guys about stocking up cleaner critters for their 50 to 90 galleons tank, snails amounted up to 40, hermits to 20, etc. I wonder do anyone (here, Asia) really doing that way?

Their tank pictures look gorgeous, SPS, corals all jammed up the space. But I hardly see packing of these critters....

Maybe the "gang war" wear out the numbers? Or some "resigned"?

Or maybe that's the "right" way, to stock up that amount of those critters?

Don't overstock turbos unless you have super algae problem

They are so sensitive and when they die, its going to badly pollute your tank

But if you tame me, we shall need each other.

To me, you will be unique in all the world.

To you, I shall be unique in all the world...

You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed.

hi there, snails and other critters that make up janitor clean up crews are living things too and require nutrition. imagine the amount of diatoms or blue green algae a snail might need to consume to be able to maintain healthy growth with its large shell and all. if youre not intending to clean your system much, that is, wipe off or magnet-clean the algae that builds up on your tank's glass surfaces, then perhaps more snails would be good, but if you do clean your tanks, perhaps one snail per ten gallons is more than sufficient for diatom and cyano clean up on the live rocks, etc.

cheers,

ian

The cone shape one, right? And not to mention they are the infamous always-fall-on-their-back-and-can't-right-themself fella, free meal and toy for the hermit, and lay on their back until the end of the life :pinch:

Too bad those snails got no good (eye sight) sense, always wandering randomly.

The cyano eating is quite a hit and miss. Guess they only take the light patches.

Not forgetting that the snails and hermits are well known for knocking over corals and rocks unless u wanna use epoxy for the entire tank.

Snail knock off your LR!

Wow, that sounds like you are not having a firm setup of the rock. I believe only damn big size hermit can do the trick. Or you stacking too light-weight or small rock at top?

Knock off coral, probably lah. Dunno which one knock down my flowerpot (goniopora)

Sometimes when turbo snails adjust their shells, their shells will knock against the glass. Can give you the impression that it's a mantis or pistol shrimp.

waah i had that problem i was hunting for a mantis be4 but after my snail died the sound went away ....

in perth snails (small ones) and hermits sooo cheap

i putting around 100+ or more depends how i feel

20 hermits or snails or mix only 2 aussie which is about ... 2.4 SGD
