i think hermits are not omnivores so they'll eat anything that's left over...

as for algae blenny mine likes my flakes more than algae... although I do occassionally see him peck at rocks...

snails are always a good choice, wonder how effective they are though...

i think snails are super algae eater, on glass and rocks.. They leave a clean track when they move around.... just that they move very slowly..

hmm.. wondering why nature does not produce snails with legs :)

My sea cucumber tends to work on the sand bed only.

For the tank glass, snails seem like the best candidate.

Algae blenny may do the trick.

Should get more snails, because they are really SLOW, and most time, they wonder to area not where you expecting :|

hermit should be fine, but as they grow bigger, problems come....

It appetite grow as well. And if you not provide it good (bigger and proper) size of shell, it will go "shell-hunting".

And the damn problem is it simply "tembak", don't really care whether the shell its hunting suit its sizing or not! It may kill snail or other hermit to rob and "try" their shell!

And if you got the wrong specises of hermit (like me :( ), which is officially classified as non-reef-safe, danger for other small fishy. :(

What an animal eats at any one time may not be indicative of their preferred diet, but might just be an attempt to satisy certain nutritional deficiencies in their main diet. In the instance of the blue legged hermit eating prawn meat, it might be just an attempt to satisfy nutritional requirements which might be lacking in their main diet of algae. Eg. if hermit crabs can't obtain certain essential amino acids/sterols from their diet of algae (rather limited diversity in aquaria), they will often scavenge for animal protein sources. Then again I've never witnessed my electric blue hermit (giant sized) actually attack small gobies. Their claws are more adept at scavenging and grazing, rather than predation.

It's true on the shell part, you'll have to provide enough shells as your hermit grows.

Always something more important than fish.

Do remember to provide algae\veggie\nori\seaweed for those reef-safe hermits, many of them like vegi, and its important for their health too.

Dunno which one the best, just grab whatever and make a veggie-mix for them once awhile.

Like tang fish, the vegi will provide important nutrients for their health.

what kinda vegi ? those normally we eat ? cabbage ? kangkong ? lecttuce .. etc ?

my tank has alot of macroalgae (sea-grape & "green-moss-like-grass") .. but the hermit seems never go close to that green area

anyway i'll feed them pieces of squid, prawns, vegi occassionally..

My hermit love grape Caulerpa, probably specises diet preference.

Well, one suggested stick to sea type vegi, and remember get those natural processing, avoid any man-made/processed like salted, spiced up or whatever. Key point: sea, natural.
