SRC Member CalciumReef Posted May 13, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted May 13, 2005 Hi to all, i just laid my hands on the tunze wavebox today. I know there are others out there who already own one but unfortunately no one has made any detailed product review on this item.So fresh from the box, pictures are as follow. Performance will be reviewed at a later date. I hope it will perform as claimed.

SRC Member CalciumReef Posted May 13, 2005 Author SRC Member Share Posted May 13, 2005 Water level does not fluctuate in the sump although water is being pushed into overflow in waves, so no worries on that issue.

SRC Member daimy068 Posted May 17, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted May 17, 2005 Hi, So how's the going so far? Would this be appropriate for an sps tank? Deciding on either the wavebox or streams. SRC Member CalciumReef Posted May 17, 2005 Author SRC Member Share Posted May 17, 2005 Hi, i have yet to hook it up.It all depends on how big your tank is and what kind of water movement are you looking at in your tank. The wavebox is not a miracle box so we can't expect it to cover everything. There are many different combinations to play with. For my case i'm adding streams to work with the wavebox to create different wave movements. The diagram below should give you a rough idea. SRC Member daimy068 Posted May 18, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted May 18, 2005 Hi! Was actually thinking of combining the wavebox and stream as well...just wondering whether all stream or wavebox and stream combination would work better. Attached rough diag of the tank...basic rockwork will be island, valley and reef drop-off. Inlet pipes aimed towards overflow and wavebox on one side and stream on the other. Any comments or advice? Thanks! ps. Apologies for hijacking your thread... All the best hooking up your wavebox! Keep us updated! TANK.doc Quote 48x30x27' Tank. Beckett Skimmer. Deltec PF600s. RM FR Pro. DE 250Wx2. SRC Member CalciumReef Posted May 18, 2005 Author SRC Member Share Posted May 18, 2005 Take note that Inlet pipes must be located at the center of the tank, if not submerged in the water below the waves or else you will have splashing water and lots of air bubbles. To hook up the wave box with streams, the 7095 controller is recommended. You get more to play with.
SRC Member CalciumReef Posted May 18, 2005 Author SRC Member Share Posted May 18, 2005 The Ring flow of the streams and the washing of waves by the wavebox will overlap, producing a pulsating ring flow-reef top biotopes. So if your pocket is deep enough, get the wave box + streams + 7095

SRC Member daimy068 Posted May 18, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted May 18, 2005 Thanks for the info CalciumReef! What if I located the wavebox at the same end as the overflow but calculated the amplitude of the wave and designed the height of the overflow teeth so that at max and min amplitude there's water into overflow and the backing glass of the overflow is made higher to prevent water splashing over? Will that work you think? Quote 48x30x27' Tank. Beckett Skimmer. Deltec PF600s. RM FR Pro. DE 250Wx2. DE T5 39Wx4. Tunze 7095+6000x2. SRC Member patrick123 Posted May 18, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted May 18, 2005 Calcium Reef, Is the wavebox much better in size compare to the tunze stream? I'm thinking of adding another 6000, but wondering if I should go for the wavebox instead. Thanks, Patrick
