hey go for the commandos!

u get to go repelling, sight seeing in different choppers, seat in those C130 planes, jump out of it....you never know the beautiful night scene of singapore until u jump out of the plane

they also have marathron, ranger course, open sea swimming, and many many more

Actually, my years in the army is my most intersting and fittest years of my life.

Though I tends to agree with some views of bros here, however, i see army as training up my character and I actually matured and sees things (while feeding mosquitoes) very differently after my army days.

Believe me. I have 6-packs mucles around stomach area back then. Now becos of unity (and lots of beer and good food on company accounts), they all converged into one big united one around the stomach .

Go in, enjoy it, do your best. No regrets when you think back.

Good trustworthy friends are a must to survive the army years, and after as well.

Different ppls have different thinking about NS... some choose to slack while some wanna do something that will let them remember for life...

which ever choice u make.. SAF have it cater for u .. vocation ranging from commando to drivers, storeman and clerks .. haha

So just do wat u think u like .. after u get ur posting lah ..

I heard that Guards' camp is in Bedok.. dunno whether true or not.. and i have no idea where the commandos camp is...

Hi akahoshi,

good to see a young man like yourself keen to take on the army. I am sure the others are trying to impress upon you that the army is seldom fun. Think mindless drills, oppressive instructors, strict regimentation, dirty conditions, lack of sleep, restricted freedom. But I also think that the army rewards you based on how much you put in. I have had friends who aspire to be clerks and storemen, enjoying the comfort of base camp and none of the hazards of field work. But look- in the end, how much have they learnt about themselves- ability to perform under pressure, pushing past the pain barrier, doing impossible things that normal sane human beings cant dream of. Its a once in a life time opportunity to really test yourself. Seize this chance. The commando/ guardsman has led a tough life, but I think it is far fuller than the typist in the CO's office.

Commando is based at Camp Hendon, Changi. Guards HQ used to be at Dieppe, but if i am not wrong, they have relocated to P Tekong. Keep up the positive attitude.

The Commandos reservist is short. The most 8 years. i finish my reservist before age 31 ... no more IPPT after that.

i'm was frm a guards unit and i would really like to refute ya pt that guards men do not feel proud about themselves...i have friends and relatives who are all guardsmen and trust me they are more proud about their khaki berets more than anything else...

akahoshi>there r 2 camps for guards unit...one in bedok and one in yishun...what houses what i'm not goin into details but the School of Guards is being planned, alot of changes coming for the guards family.

hope u can get into ocs, becos once u get into sispec u wont be thinking of guards anymore.......!!!

think u maybe thinking of places like bmtc intructors, hq ncc assistant !!!

i mean is good to aim for ur liking vocation but dun feel sad if u get into other places like armour infantry or infantry which is combat equally siong!!!

FYI, infantry and also do heli ops, is tat they dun specialise on it only.........!!!

i myself frm infantry, during my active days i learn all sort of nonsense thing like heliborne. somemore i learn to hook up my mortar onto heli for underslung operation.

wat u will be doing is depends on your unit whether is guards or anything else!!!

but if u really hope for the good and cool thing, think of getting bars on your shoulder!!!
