Need Advise : Coraline Alage On Lr

Need help,

Bought 25kgs of LR from PR at Balestier last week. Very nice rocks (they said its imported from Fiji/Tonga or somewhere far away), covered with coraline alage.

Its been in my new 3ft tank for a week now (tank is still cycling), notice that the coraline alage is "dropping off" bit by bit.

What must I do to keep the coraline alage "alive"?? Is it something to do with the light? water? calcium? temp?

I did a search but could not fine much info on coraline alage (alot on white stuff, smelly rock, etc.) Would appreciate advise from the pros.

It would be such a waste if all the corline alage drops off, than its no different from the cheap $8 rocks.

Coralline algae is the correct spelling... or your searches won't show anything. ;)

Anyway.... coralline algae should be given good water quality or they may bleach and die off. They won't 'drop' off as they are encrusting organisms and will be part of the LR (unless you break them off).

Give them an environment with good water flow, high calcium levels, consistent KH and PH and they will grow back.

jas, check again using the correct spelling.

GARF has some good articles ;http://www.garf.org/coralline.html

Nickel- purple coralline dies when it turns white then flakes off(this happens when there is a sudden change in water quality or to a different system in which parameters are not optimal). If rocks drop off then its not coralline.

Die coralline! DIE!

I find that giving them a blast of light of a different K rating does the trick to kill them.

I dun get it....Coralline Algae...I tot it is good then why would it be a problem in other schools of thoughts?

They grow on the glass and compete for calcium with SPS.
