Sun coral do not need much lights... They can exist even in dark caves in nature... Try squirting some food ard it

saw some black sun coral at LCK.....boss says to avoid too much exposure to strong lights.... going at ard $20 plus plus....its really pitch black....different kind I guess.....

Blend some shrimp with hum...drop a few drops into the water and your sun corals should open once they smell the food.

got the same at pasir ris farm a few months ago for $15. its much more expensive than the usual orange but i still prefer orange blooming, or is it that my black doesnt bloom enough......

Sun corals are non-photosynthetic so it does not matter if they are under light or not.

I have mine right out under strong lighting...

To get them open... you have to introduce some form of stimulant eg. strong-smelling food into the water. My sun corals will open up once they detect my hands in the water (not joking), or when I feed GPs, cyclop-eze, brineshrimp, mysis etc.

You have to target feed each individual polyps as they are in fact seperate organisms and not part of the 'Borg Collective', so to speak.

erm, if u've been diving b4, u'll notice most sun corals found in the wild are attached up-side-down to the underside of rocks...almost shaded completely from the sun... can try glueing them that way...heh

maybe you would like to try this .I take the sun corals out of the tank place it into a pail of salfwater soak with brineshrimp then return it back for a week .and now each time i feed other fish in the tank it open up . They also open up when they detect my hands in the water

How long did u put the sun coral in de pail? till it opens? or just a few hours?
