hi, i don't think that your tank is cheapo.. cause: those corals and fishes in your tank.. all living thing -like us. sorrie, i am a newbie so not fit' to comment on your tank-overstock or condition. just want to state my view and my respect for your tank and animals in it.

no point of having high-end equipment when the users have no respect/care for the animals in his/her tank. (by thinking corals, fishes... money can buy their life. if one die, then buy some more rare species). so k life of those animals be judged by cheapo/expensive equipment or by their dollar value. or should -base on the love, care and respect for animals/life by its keeper.

your tank is not a cheapo one. at least i don't see it so....:peace:

Its more on the fundermental of fishkeeping and husbandry rather than how much you spend on that shinny new skimmer.

tell you guys but dun laugh. I started off with some green spotted puffer caught at East Coast. Run a 2 feeter with "AA" brand $5 wooden stone skimmer, old red spectrum FL light for freshwater, China made $15 top filter.

we should call it "budget" setup...rather than the term "cheapo"

different reefers have diff methods of constructing their tanks. A good tank with good equipment doesnt means their tank conditions will be very good. IMO, a good maintances with a good planning can actually saves you lot of risks! BUT i can said that with good equipments, u will save up lots of time maintain your tank! So u can sit down there and enjoy all the fishes....dun be a slave to your tank guys...

here's a plan for my upcoming newbie 2feeter:

1. Live Rocks

2. Live Sand

3. <$100 skimmer hung outside tank

4. simple overhead filter

5. 2-3 fishes only

6. 1 boxer shrimp

7. 1 doctor shrimp

8. couple of turbo snails

9. corals

question is: how high are shrimps, snails n corals' bioload? are they very significant?

hope to obtain some advice from u bros out there before i actually carry out my plan and start this simple set up and upgrade on da way....

:thanks:

Bro....forget about the overhead filter......get a cannister instead.......with a surface skimmer overflow.....

What about lights? Get PL light at minmum if you want some corals......preferably soft corals.......

Put the snails later as there wont be much algae to eat for a new tank.......

2 fish......can la.......I could still remember I have > 10 fishes in my previous 2 footer....and thats a no no......ignorance I was..... :P

i dun know.., maybe compared to a top filter the cannister have more surface area for the good bacteria to colonize.

PL means power compact lighting.
