Mark Leong
Singapore's weather is getting pretty warm... esp. today. Would like to find out what is the recommended temperature for a Marine fish tank with live rocks only...? below 31oC? Thanks
SRC Member DaY Posted September 7, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted September 7, 2003 27 to 28 degree is more ideal..i believe. but it also depend on type of corals or fish-only tank you want to keep..
Dispar_Anthias
Corals prefer lower temp ard 26-28 degree but fishes can tolerate higher temp to ard
SRC Member metals99 Posted September 7, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted September 7, 2003 they can tolerate for fish i mean temperature rise up slowly rite.. my tank 30 degrees if no fan to cool down.. but corals like mushrooms, leather, polyps, sea fans in my tank b4 i put fan can stand it.. SRC Member Dazza Posted September 9, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted September 9, 2003 Yes I think the word is " consistent temperature ". Most inverts cannot tolerate too much fluctuations in temp & fishes usually get stressed and diseased when temperature chgs too quickly. Crab
my tank hits 32-33 degrees during hot days. so far all fishes are ok.
proms
Internal filter that submerge inside the water usually produce more heat, so water temp is higher. Cannister or overflow filter with the motor outside the tank will not affect the water temp as much as the former.
supersonic
It is OK if the temp raises up slowly which is going to be the case. Doesn't matter. So that means if yours is 32 and you put ice to drop it to 24 suddenly. There is a good chance they will be stress and die. Good chance does not mean sure die.. Anyone dares to challeng my cliam? *dlareg*
Anyone noticed the temp of the display tank at ML is at 31 degrees? According to them, as long as u have moderate water movement, its ok. Any comments?
SRC Member panlee Posted September 15, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted September 15, 2003 I think the main point is stable temperature. Normal recommended is 26-28. If your tank is always 30 then it 'might' (i am no expert) be ok as the livestock would adjust to them. It is no good to throw iced bottle to cool the temparature, sudden change no good. SRC Member pospeh Posted September 15, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted September 15, 2003 I myself have kept lps corals at 31C consistently without them dying on me. But I think that is at the very end of the temperature limit. The thing is that the corals get used to the higher temperatures at the LFS, and if you maintain it at the same temp consistently, it should not be a problem. Achilles Tang
FOWLR tanks can have higher water temps. Reef tanks should be maintained around 25 to 26 (below 30).

FuEl
The higher the water temperature the less oxygen content you have in the water. Cooler temperatures will mean more dissolved oxygen..meaning you can have more livestock.
