Calciumreef: I really really don't advise you to DIY your own IOS, cuz unless you are very very skilled at using silicon, it'll be very messy and make your tank value go down rather than up cuz I DIY-ed some stuff myself using silicon and its almost impossible to make it look as neat as a commercial silicon seal. Plus not everyone wants acrylic, some might prefer glass, some might also prefer their own different style of partitions, etc, so best is to sell the tank as it is and let pple DIY themselves.

IMO,i guess it doesnt mean that the crowd says something and its correct,

sometimes the crowd might be wrong and the minority is right,i think theres a topic about glass thickness or something in this forum and the conclusion is at least 8mm or 10mm for a marine tank.

or maybe having a 6mm tank without LR? :P

devilfire: I think your self-righteous tone is quite irritating, so what if you consult george bush himself? the whole pt of a tank bursting is all about statistics, probability, even a 10mm tank CAN crack, even a 12mm tank can crack, it depends on a lot of factors, like is the glass quality good? any batch defects? any nicks and scratches on the glass that can act as stress concentrators? any dropping of LR? What kind of glass, cuz different glass got different impact strength, tensile strength, etc etc etc.

The whole pt is not whether 6mm is enuff but if thicker is safer or not, ie, which mm thickness gives you the least probability or risks of an accident and are you willing to take that risk. if you think 6mm risk is fine then go ahead. there's no need to quote your so called "xperts". For your info, tank manufacturers are good at.... manufacturing tanks...... underwater world fellas are good at.... maintaining reefs (they don't even buy the tank to begin with), all your experts are not even relevant to the topic. what you do need is someone with engineering knowledge to tell you if 6mm is safe, and how safe. You have to calculate water volume, sand volume, LR weight, glass strength, how it is reinforced (bracings), etc ,etc then calculate the hoop and radial stress on the glass walls before comparing to the glass properties to see if its safe or not. Until you can do that for yourself, do try and be a little bit more humble.....
