Is it advisable to have live rocks leaning against the side glass panels?

My glass is 12mm thick....

The part that is circled is leaning against the side walls....

can your tank be viewed from that side? if so then don't lean it... it will become impossible to clean the glass...

If not then shouldn't be a problem since most of the loading is not against the glass, it's downwards onto the other rocks...

IMO, leaning is ok ;) ...as some of them mentioned that the weight go downwards....as for deadspots, it best to cover as much area as possible....

just to promote the Dead spots or eddies form on the surface.

if area not covered, surface scum will gets trapped there and doesn't go down the overflow. ;)

Sad to say that that something I fight with for a long time trying to remove these surface dead spots, gave up in the end. <_<

May i know what is so bad about the dead spots behind the rock?

dead spots may develop in places where not enough circulation exists or none at all this can stale the water and pollutants may build up in it. this can provide nice food for unwanted algae when it appears your tank parameters are otherwise fine. a lot of people successfully deal with this but i prefer to minimise issues that can place stains on my tank. just stacking the odds in my favour as best I can

i think he is more concern about the glass giving way then dead spot.....answers provided may be a bit off-topic.....

but just to add to the off-topic-ness of this discussion....my feel is that if there are places where you cirulation doesn't flow, fishes and other organisium will used it as they cave when sleeping/resting....then as they move in and out of caves....there will no longer be consisdered dead spot.... :D
