recommended dosage for additives

hi guys

recently it just occurred to me that i can interpret the dosage on additive bottles in 2 ways.

say for eg it says:" use 1ml per 100L"

does this 100L mean 100L of aquarium water? meaning (total VOL of tank, X - vol taken up by Sand and LR, Y = vol of water in aquarium,Z) then take the final result, Z/100 and dose

OR

just take total VOL of tank and dose? meaning just take X/100 and dose?

it maybe a dumb question but i want to clarify this because it makes a difference between severe overdose, and underdose

hope to hear some inputs!

:thanks:

normally most brands directives r based on true water volume (inclusive of main tank and sump). anyway, it is always better to underdose than to overdose.

thanks lightningstrike, by true water volume do you mean just considering the amt of water in the system?

not inclusive of vol of rocks and stuff?

ok so tat's for additives

how about things like chiller?

when they say rated for 1000L, is that true water volume or total volume of fish tank?

Ask and wait till the cow comes home you will still not dose - maybe you should just go ahead and dose according to the guide? Even if you overdose, just ensure you have not severely overdose...it should be ok.

Live rocks and sand etc. also contain water you know so how to EXACTLY measure ? Just like when you are sick and take liquid medicine, it says 1 teaspoon 3 times per day....so must it be exactly 1 teaspoon ? 1 or 2 drops less can or cannot ? 3 or 4 times per day, must it be exactly 24 hrs divide by 3 or 4 and missing by 1 or 1/2 hr gonna cost you your life ?

no la

i've already been dosing

so far when i dose i assume the instructions is taking true water vol

but i was just wondering if its wrong to do so...because it would be severe underdose ma rite?

so just asking to confirm what you guys do

as to LR and sand haf water...i measured vol of water by determining flowrate from tap then timing how long i used to fill up tank...so how much water inside i think i have quite an accurate value

Instead of using seachem, might switch all my addictives to Aquaz, cuz its price-friendly. i think results will show only after many months of dosing. .
