would like the ask the expert here ... wat could be the problem of the water suddenly becoming cloudy?? Spike??

did dose some liquid calcuim (10ml) in the evening ( not veri much right for a 3X2X2.5 plus a 2.5 sump).... and change of my coral chip to bio balls in my sump on sunday.. could this have cause it ?? but monday and tue the water was still crystal clear til this morning before i went to sleep..

wat can i also look out for . ??or do.????. cause i never encounter such happening before in my tank..???

:thanks: alot ..

i suspect its the calcium carbonate precipitation thats causing the cloudiness. have you check your carbonate hardness (alkalinity)? if low on the scale just add marine buffer to raise it up and your calcium level will come down to normal.

hi bro ...

sorry .. but wat is calcium carbonate precipitation ??? i haven conduct any test yet cos was late for camp this morning.. therefore just left it alone and went to camp...

is it dangerous ??? if this is the case.. i just increase dKH can liao ??? my ca will go down and the water will become clear ..?? do i need to check my mg first ??? in order to get the right dkh.. then attend to my ca ???

sorry for so many question .. was reali worried ..

by the way if i leave it alone will it go away ???

:thanks:

cheers :D

hi ....

just back from LFS and bought the Ca and KH test kit .. could not find the mg one.. can someone recommend one? (or borrow me for one test :P )

ok the reading from the test were

NO2 ~ 0mg/L

KH ~ 9 dKH

Ca ~ 430 ppm

ph ~ 8.1

mg ~ dunno cos no test kit. :P

Tank was still abit cloudly... did calcium carbonate precipitation happen? or is it because i took out the coral chips and replcae it will bio balls on sunday that causes causes a annimoa spike ?? but my reading of N02 is 0 mg/L.. it giving me a headache... wat could be the cause??

Will water changes helps to clear the water ??

cheers

:thanks: alot for thoses that gave me thoses valueable advise and comments.. reali app.. thanks again :D

oh u replaced coral chips with bioballs ah? Hm... you might have distupted the filtration system a little by doing that.. making it go thru a mini "new-tank" syndrome...

Are your corals and fishes doing okay? ur water parameters look okay to me

HMmmm... i donno man.. usually i would just leave it and wait it out.. since the corals and all still look okay...

changing the water might introduce even more shock....

my suggestion is if you notice any adverse effects then change the water immediately.. if not then just wait and see...

In any case, i think it's better not to have the bioballs even... nothing that will become a nitrate factory after a while...

Huh change to LR? no man... actually there should be nothing in the sump that can possibly trap deitrus over a long period of time...

For me it's down pipe straight to sump where the first line of defence is the skimmer, then I use a small piece of filter wool which I change frequently just to trap anything that got pass the skimmer, then it's refugium and back to the tank liao...

But there are different schools of thought about this.. some people pack their sump with bioballs and filter wool, some have nothing... so it's really up to you I guess...

I used to have coral chips and bioballs too.. then I swapped over to having nothing at all except the skimmer and fuge...

agree ! You just need regular cleaning for the bioball & coral chips if you intend to keep it.

ya, i do exp these when i rescape my tank...after changing water...removing all coral chips....etc etc...the water become cloudy. it takes about 3 -4 days for it be clear...any stcoks die? nope....So as some reefers mentioned, must take note of the adverse effects on LFS and Corals....and of coz, checked your water para during these process.....anyway good that it clear!!! ;)
