How to Get Flame Angel to Eat?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Bought a Flame Angel last Saturday.

It's not been eating much.

Tried live brine shrimp, fish eggs, flakes, pellets. It does not seem to have a liking for all these food.

Thought it prefers "vegetables", so placed a piece of vegetable (already partially cooked by placing in boiling water) in the tank, anchoring the vege to a rock, also did not eat it.

Can anyone advise how to coax the Angel to eat?

Any particular brand of food that it would like?

Thanks.

Had buy 1 flame angel 2 weeks back from Iwarna, it did not start to eat after 1 week, IMO it is not difficult to get him started to eat as long there is no bully in your tank, anyway I had also use Garlic extreme (dun know it help or not).

if it keep hiding pls check whether does it had white spot, fish refused to eat if it get sick too...... :(

Thank you Rhinopias, am trying all options now, hopefully with success.

Seeing a little bit of white spots on the fish, otherwise fish looks healthy.

I just got a golden angel and at first it just pecks at the live rock.

After some time it learned from the flameangel & yellow tang in the tank that those floating reddish stuff (cyclopleeze) hitting its face for the past few days is actually food!

Give it some time, hopefully it is smart enuff to learn from the 'old birds' in the tank :eyeblur:

Hi Bro,

Try some raw prawn meat and perhaps a opened "tua tow" with shell intact, fish just love the smell of fresh seafood and should be attracted to it.

Remember to remove any uneaten seafood immediately as it tends to foul water very quickly.

Good luck and give your fish some time. I am sure it will eat if it is clean caught.

BTW a few spots on the fish is OK and I would keep an eye on it to make sure it does not develop more spots. When I first introduce my flame, it had a couple of spots but disappeared after a few days.

Wouldn't suggest such foods for angels as it'll only encourage them to take the 1st bite at ur corals or clams... and once they start, that's the end...

Most fishes respond well to cyclopeeze, due to its smell, so maybe a good idea to start it eating on cyclopeeze 1st, den either frozen BS/MS... :P
