Recommednation UV Steriliser

Recommended Posts

Am getting my new setup done sometime mid week. As this is only a FOWLR, I intend to keep a couple of tangs amongst other fishes.

Tank specs: 3ft x 1.5ft x 2.5 feet with a 2.5ft sump.

Question is, is a Jebao 13W UV steriliser good enough? Also, what pump is recommeded to go with this?

I have a Dymax 4000 return pump and someone mentioned that I could connect the UV sterilser in-line with the return pump. i.e. outlet from pump goes straight into the inlet of the UV?

Is this recommeded and serves the purpose? Am afraid the flowrate is too fast for the UV to be effective. Please advice. Thanks

To ensure ur UV is effective.... do make sure u change the bulb every one year of so (if it is on for 8 hrs a day)... So those who use 24/7, go do your maths....

UV light bulb needs to be replaced... I just replaced mine yesterday..... cause I got my UV light second hand.... 19 watts philip bulb which cost me $55 bucks....

so any bros can tell mi whether UV is good??seem no different for mi leh...

Ya, somtimes cannot tell difference.

I think the key is to use the CORRECT WATER FLOW RATE for it to be effective. too fast, kills little parasite, better to be slow. UV kills both good and bad bacterias in your tank.

Now I that I have the correct flowrate, 18watts at 500 ltr per hour, if I remember correctly, I will use it when introducing new fishes after giving them a FW dip.

UV are secondary measures if you are planning to use it to fight iches or parasites... Dun put your hope on it as a primary defense line... ;)

I am using the coralife turbo twister 3x and they do have some flowrate chart recommendation, I suppose they are almost the same for other brand as well.

55gph for parasite

120 gph for algae

210 gph for bacteria. (approx)

the funny thing is..., if i run them at 55gph, do i kill the rest too?

Jebo UV are quite popular among hobbyist. 13 watts should be very good for a 3 feeter.
