What do u think about Lake Toba eruption?

Is Tsunami the warning sign? :(

Just last night, there was one more earthquake..As per scientist, Lake Toba had exploded some 70,000 years ago and expected to explode again anytime from now... the earthquake will probably measures 12+ on the Richter scale.

The last eruption wipe out most of humanity.. what's ur view?

Look at the date of the article (April 1st) by this so called professor, if he ever exists. I think we all can become professors on that fateful day.

If ever all these tall tales has any credibility, it will be news in the world! :P

Better move to Genting before the huge tidal waves wipe out the island :D

I'm not sure abt Lake Toba but I may not say the same abt the volcano at Yellow Stone Park in States. Apparently, yellow stone's dome is rising. Many believe Yellow Stone is "one of the biggest" volcano in the world.

Find out abt yellowstone, http://pubs.usgs.gov/fs/2005/3024/

To know more abt supre volcano, discovery channel is doing a documentary on them.

When I was in Japan in year 2000, many also said that Mount Fuji is 'scheduled' to erupt soon... that would apparently wipe out Tokyo city. So far so good leh... and I'm planning to go back to Japan again soon...

:yeah:;):paiseh:

I guess I should listen to JC85 ... just reef on....

Title : Indonesian volcano spews ash, sparking new panic in wake of tsunami scare

By :

Date : 12 Apr 2005 1122 hrs (GMT + 8hrs)

JAKARTA: A volcano on the Indonesian island of Sumatra spewed ash on Tuesday, sparking panic among a population that has yet to recover from a strong recent earthquake, officials said.

A meteorology and geophysics official in the west Sumatran town of Padang Panjang said that nearby Mount Talang had erupted at 3:42 am (2042 GMT Monday), coughing volcanic ash about one kilometre (about half a mile) around the peak.

The 2,599-metre (8,680 foot) Mount Talang is just some 40 kilometres (25 miles) east of the coastal capital of West Sumatra province, Padang.

The official, Sugeng, said his office had warned people to avoid the ash fall-out zone around the peak but had otherwise not demanded the evacuation of the rest of the mountain's slope.

"We are still monitoring the activities of the volcano but so far there has not been any significant volcanic temblor registered," he said.

The Detickcom online news service said that the eruption had sparked panic among the local population on the fertile slope of the volcano, prompting many to flee to areas far from the mountain.

Padang was hit by a strong earthquake measuring 6.7 on the Richter scale on Sunday, causing minimal damage but prompting panic that saw thousands of residents flee to higher ground fearing a tsunami.

The eruption follows a series of major natural disasters to strike the western coast of Sumatra island.

A massive 9.3 magnitude earthquake hit Aceh and parts of North Sumatra on December 26, creating deadly tidal waves that levelled coastal areas around the Indian Ocean, leaving more than 220,000 people dead or missing.

On March 28, a strong earthquake hit shook the islands of Nias and Simeulue off the western coast of Sumatra, killing more than 600 people.

Indonesia sits on a series of geological faultlines that remain constantly on the move and that are lined with over 130 active volcanoes. - AFP
