How to remove return pump?

Hi pple. got the above question that is really bugging me. Sorry I'm not exactly a DIY person, so it's a real prob.

My tank came with a pump already fitted to the pipe, so had no chance to see how to put it in/take it out. The return pump is a Hailea model and after about 1 plus year of use, I think I should change to a more reliable one.

Any kind person can tell me how to do it? Thanks. :peace:

I would cutt off the entire pipe and replace with new pipe fitted with my new return pump. If there is really a need, i will replace any ball valves or unions that came along with it.

For my new tank, i tear down the entire piping system and redo it myself.

Below is a picture of which pipe i will cut off to remove the return pump.

Cut the PVC pipe and buy a quick disconnect joint from hardware shop, just joint the upper and lower PVC pipe to the quick disconnect joint and next time you can just take in and out of your pump easily.

hi guys,

i didn't know pipe can be directly connected to pump so i first use a hose then connect it to the pvc pipes.

i was wondering how exactly can the pipe be fitted directly to the pump?

the pipe is hard and isn't elastic so how can it form a air tight seal? with pvc cement?

hope someone can enlighten me

thanks!

:thanks:

Some pumps are possible, provided they have a threaded head which you can buy a bulk head to screw in. Ehiem & Rio are able to do so.

Just apply some white tape to the bulk head & screw in. It should be able to form air tight seal. ;)

sorry

alittle confused here

do you mean i will need to get a part of the pump that is threaded and place it at the output?

then put white tape and get a female pvc pipe to screw in?

Hmm... In a sense yes.

Ehiem pump output is 'female' threaded. So you need a 'male' bulk head.

Rio output is 'male' so you need a 'female' to screw in.

Hope you understand what I mean :heh:
