2nd Review Of Weipro Skimmer 2012

Hi folks, I read BWilly's review of Weipro.

So I would like to add in my own photo shot as well.

I posted these pics before all the dat went down 2 months ago.

I find WeiPro quite a good skimmer. I could tune to produce lots

of foams. See the pics for more info cos a pic say a thousand words.

I find that lots of people were disputing the Weipro citing the size of the

bubbles. Deng Xiao Ping use to say : "Don't care black cat or white cat as well

it catches rats it will be a good cat."

In our context, :"Don't care what brand or price or size of bubbles : as long as the skimmer produce foam it is a good skimmer"

Judge yourself from looking at the pics.

As you can see,

I use the same skimmer as bwilly but the foam produced is different.

This is due to the fact that we tune the skimmer differently.

I tune the water level to be quite high.

The following pic shows the water column and the size of

bubbles if you can see them.

Hi sharkbait,

I don't thank the type of pump matters

cos the water level is controlled by a water level

valve that you can adjust.

Anyway I am using a cheap taiwan-made 2500l/hr dolphin.

Cheers

but my friend is using a pump rated 1500l/h and it doesnt produce half as much bubbles as yours.

Hi sharkbait,

its prob due to the water level tuning.

Plus I think I prefer to oversize the pump.

The specs on the skimmer states that 1500l/hr pump is required.

But then when you put in the pump, factors like height of water column,

wear and tear etc may reduce the pressure, so better to use a bigger pump.

Cheers

Bro,

We adjust foam up to which level on the skimmer.

Maybe you like to show us a pic of the water level

in the skimmer.

good to see another SRC mbr using weipro to gd effect.

Base on my experience on tuning skimmer, I try to

adjust the bubble (when just starting to break in)

Its not too high n not too low.

the bubbles will slowly build on top of each other,

bringing the organic waste to the funnel top.

If u overskim u may get light brown residue.

Its best - be patience, and let the bubbles

slowly build up.

Also its always go to get a slightly over-rated

pump. (actually anything if price different

is not much)

Can Weipro be used without being hung on? I'm thinking of getting one and putting it below my tank. As I don't have a sump I'm thinking of using an external pump to pump water out of the tank and into the skimmer..and back into the tank via tubing.

Does this sound ok?

Always something more important than fish.

Yes friend,

I am seow from Pasir Ris.

Ever since my data was erased from the previous crash, decided

to adopt a better *name* rather hokkien version of *crazy reefer*.

I previously named myself siow_reefer after my wife caught me

sneaking out of bed late at night to shine torchlight at my tank.... :)

Hi,

I would agree judging from the skimmate that the weipro produced is indeed an excellent skimmer for its price compared to higher priced skimmers(around $100) such as macro and prizm. :D

However I would not agree that irregardless of bubble size, as long as produce foam is a good skimmer. B)

Sorry I don't mean to denounce weipro or anything. But I feel there is a need to show the difference between why we should be paying so much more for a so called branded skimmer such as a H&S, EuroReef, AquaC etc.

Yes these are much much more expensive but the ones who use these skimmers are not fools either. So there must be a reason (other than having $$$ to spare), why reefers would prefer to go for so called branded skimmers. :pinch:

Bubble size and quantity is extremely important and has direct impact on the quality of skimmate. Using an under rated or over rated pump can reduce efficiency too. An under rated pump will not enable enough tank water to flow through the bubbles, hence low cleaning rate. An over rated pump will not allow long enough bubble/water contact time and hence reduce cleaning efficiency too.

That is why you see those powerful skimmers using extremely long tubes. The reason being it has a longer contact time with the bubbles.

However, to add on, as a budget skimmer, the weipro is indeed one of the best <$200 skimmers around I've seen. :peace:

But as far as possible, I strongly recommend you go for the AquaC, H&S, schuran or Euroreef for tanks 3 ft and above. Don't stinge on skimmer because this is your livestocks only life line. Save up and get the best skimmer you can absolutely afford for your tank. ;)

Here is a photo of skimmate produced by a H&S using a 18W pump only.
