Many factors and possibilities...

If it is a newly purchased fish, it is probably stressed out from all the netting, transporting and transferring....

Some fishes darkened while stressed (eg. sailfin tang) while some other takes on a lighter shade...

Give it some time and it should be ok....

Of course, water parameters does play a part too..... if your water conditions are bad, your fishes can become stress and also "change" colour...

If your fish remains this way few days after purchase, it is critical that you check your water parameters and find out the cause for their stress...

Yo!

THink if it is just introduced, probably due to stress. Just less how humans turn pale when shocked

If it is prolonged, means there is a constant stressor in your tank and it must be discovered. Maybe due to water Parameters or even tank-mate aggression.

:P:P Hope this helps :P:P

Anybody has the answer? My fish also lose colour although water parameters are ok and they eat well.No excessive aggression too.

Other possibilities presuming that your water parameters are ok...

Space constraint leading to aggression

1. Do you have too many fishes in the tank?

2. Do you have too many fishes that are aggressive in nature?

3. Do you have enough caves for your fishes to house as territory?

Lastly, we need to know your tank size and water parameters to give you a more probable answer.... as well as what species of fish you have in your tak and which fish is losing colour...

ya all parameter ok 2 ft cubt all the fish liek angel and clown

dunno is it the food or wat

you mean angel & clown losses colour? thats wierd...never come across.. :ooh:

as what seamonkee says, space constraint leading to aggression..and many reasons such as diet and etc..

From what I know, it is common for Tangs to change colour (not completely out of its colour but will turn alittle see thru') and dragon will turn abit whitish during night time..

Other causes might be the type of background, lightings type and their positions on the tank.

I once place my white T5 at the back, actinic T5 in front. This cause the white light to shine more on the side of the fish that is away from me and they look less colorful. Also type of lights will bring out the brillance of fish color.

Fishes after being kept in the tank for some time will loose abit of their colours....there are some good food supplements to keep this up...
