Issit ok to plant algae without a sand bed?

just wanna know whether the sand bed will have any effect on the algae??? or just put the rock in the sump and supply light 24/7 will do ..

I presume you talking about those macro algae. It really depend on the type.

I believe most of the general macro algae doesn't need sand bed.

Like my grape Caulerpa, some of them come on rock, but they grow well without really need the sandbed. I do have sandbed, but they just grow in the water, with the root visible.

I also got a long streak green seagrass (unidentified yet) come on a rock.

Certain type of seagrass may need different of sand for best growth.

just get a piece of rock for them to cling onto... if not they would be free floating and might end up in your return pump

I use rocks only in my refugium. Works well.

Imo, if the roots are expose in water column rather than sandbed, it helps the algae to intake nutrients more easily.
