Alveopora (Daisy Coral)

Hi,

2 weeks ago, I bought an alveopora which opened up in my tank but never as fully opened as it was in the LFS which I bought it.

Few days ago, it stopped opening, I guess, it's gone.

I supposed it's not an easy coral to maintain.

Just sharing my experience.

Anyone had great success with this coral?

Felix

half the recommeded iodine dosage & high Alk. keeps it going ( 10 ~ 12dKH) . Gentle Water movement that lifts up the petals encourage it to bloom.

Depends on whether it's a branched , sphere or slab specimen. ( varies from moderate, moderate-low to low flow ).

illum. it w T5 , coral placed under 6 to 10 inches .

Important, do not disturb it, once it is in place.

keep hands away from tank for 1 week.

The above works for me.Good Luck..

Water parameters:

kH: 10 -11

pH: 8.5

Have not tested Ca level for 2 weeks, but dosing 2.5 mL spoonful "Seachem Ca reef advantage" every alternate day and alternating with 2.5mL spoonful Ca carbonate. Is this dosing ok?

Other corals like hammer, jewel, sun, zooanthids & goniopora are doing ok.

Thanks ambystoma, my alveopora does not look the one in your pix.

Did change 15% water but coral still refuses to show.

A light green (mouldy) patch is showing.

I don't think it's doing ok.

Sorry, don't have pix to show.

Thank you everyone for yr comments.

Felix

Hi,

The Alveopora I had has very very short stalks and tiny pink flowers, very dainty, definitely not as big as the one shown in Kok Hui's photo.

(I do not have a digital camera to take the photo).

Maybe, it's another type of alveopora (or could it be acorpora)??

acropora? that's SPS.. please dont mix it up..

it has no long stalks being in the fact that it has not extended from its rock yet.. its not suppose to be like this.. it shld look like the ones in above pics.. that's a healthy alveopora.. if its acropora, then its SPS and needs high lighting and strong flow.. a picture will really help alot..

check ur water parameters or flow.. :erm:

No alveopora I know of are pink. Your's should be an encrusting goniopora. These come from nutrient laden waters in the wild, which suggest some form of external nutrient uptake to do well.

Always something more important than fish.

Hi Shin, my coral looks more like the latest photo that ambystoma just posted, but more pinkish and smaller flowers, or it could be the same just that it's greatly magnified in ambystoma photo shot.

Thanks everyone for chipping in the responses.

Look like this?
