Can external pump be place above the sump tank? Will it work? Below is what i had in mind. Pls advice...

I have a feeling if you put it like that, whenever you turn off your pump, the back-flow will cause the water to be siphoned out of the pump.

It will be very troublesome for you to prime the pump again everytime.

Wanna run it externally as i dont have a chiller. Actually i thought by making the pipes into a loop, water will remail in the pump once it stops.

But I think due to the height of the overflow, the weight of the water falling may cause air to be sucked into the pump.

In my opinion, I would not configure it this way. But if you really must, then maybe if you could put in a check valve, it may help a little.
